Cool Hunting

A first generation Korean-American, Tim grew up on Blood Street in a small, old New England town. His environment provided the opportunity to pick and choose from two different cultures resulting in an eclectic mix of interests and characteristics.

After graduating from Skidmore College with a B.A in Biology-Psychology he traveled through S. America and Asia. An outdoor enthusiast now living in Brooklyn, NY, he worked in the Strategic Marketing Department of Warner Brother Records and followed it with a position at the Yale Medical School researching mechanisms of the next pandemic, Diabetes.

Don’t be fooled by his laid-back exterior; he fidgets and is easily bored. He enjoys playing fútbol and eating comfort foods (especially on Sundays). If he could, he’d have a new pair of socks for every day. He relies on his daily observations to hunt the cool but believes that anything can be cool given the right time, light and context.

But what happens when you introduce a limiting (and very real) factor to the project? Featured in Wired, the Royal College of Arts (RCA) recently unveiled 10 progressive automobile designs that all take into account our current limiting factor of petroleum and...

Recently unveiled at the New Designers event in London, each of her works cleverly transforms what were purely ornamental objects into functional and useful objects. One such standout example is Thomson's take on the traditional candelabra. She modernizes the romantic...
Dr. Martens Monkey Boot
Peeking into what's next from Dr. Martens as they continue to revamp themselves for today's market, we found a couple of good options for Fall and Winter. New monochromes and a neon series are a very "now" treatment of their iconic heavy-soled boots, but we also like the more traditional look of their Monkey Boot. First released back in the late '60s as a...
Picture China
As is to be expected when it comes to the world's preeminent sports meet and (perhaps more importantly) cultural event, coverage during the first weekend of the Olympic Games was heavy on cheesy montages and stuffy commentary. For a richer, more authentic look into China and their way of life, we recommend NYC-based photographer Dan Eckstein's recent project entitled Picture China. A documentary and...
Hangar One Infused Raspberry Vodka
Unlike most flavored vodkas that use chemical additives to get their kicks, Hangar One Raspberry Vodka is actually distilled straight from the famous Meeker raspberry harvested in Washington State. With its red color and unique taste, its a different experience altogether. Only one batch is made yearly in June, the latest was recently made available in limited quantities. The heady aroma belies a surprisingly...
