Australian Model Reveals the Ugly Side of Instagram Fame
Australian model Essena O’Neill has built a massive social media following with her seemingly effortless selfies, but after accruing over half a million Instagram followers, the 16-year-old is calling it quits, revealing to her fans the ugly cost of Instagram fame—including calorie-counting, endless exercising and obsessing over body image. She’s recently deleted or re-captioned many of her photos, explaining what’s really going on behind the shot. Under one of her photos she explains, “NOT REAL LIFE—I didn’t pay for the dress, took countless photos trying to look hot for Instagram, the formal made me feel incredibly alone.”
