BAMart Silent Auction with Paddle8

Two art world heavyweights collaborate to rethink the online auction

After nine years of hosting the BAMart Silent Auction, BAM has decided to team up with Paddle8 for the second time in a bidding session that innovates on the notion of an online auction. Arguably the internet’s most forward-thinking auction house, Paddle8 is consistently impressive—and their collaboration with BAM is no exception.

Boasting big-name artists from José Parlá to Daniel Arsham, the event maintains prestige while giving collectors around the world the opportunity to join in. Co-chaired by Cindy Sherman, Beth Rudin DeWoody and Kathy Grayson, the auction goes to benefit BAM with a portion of the proceeds donated to NYFA’s Emergency Relief Fund for artists affected by Hurricane Sandy.

An exhibition of the works will be held at The Hole gallery in Manhattan from 23-28 April 2013, although online bidding is open today, 17 April, at the dedicated auction page. For the space, Brooklyn-based artist Julia Chiang has created a bar—commissioned by Absolut Vodka—composed of beehives, a nod to the artist’s series for the Brooklyn Grange Bees apiary. An iPad app has also been made to streamline the bidding process in real time.
