Premiere: Brenn + Cesar Remix Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat”
A commemorative, electronic iteration on the 15th anniversary of the singer’s untimely death
After years entrenched in the Parisian house music scene, brothers Brenn and Cesar moved their DJ act stateside (and launched a successful club night series, Lastlight). Appropriately named Brenn & Cesar, the group debuts here their first single since the shift to NYC, and it’s an Aaliyah remix. “For years, we’ve been obsessed with this brilliantly original track from Aaliyah, ‘Rock The Boat.’ This is why, for the past couple months we have been working on something using her vocals,” Brenn explains. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of her untimely death, the track contains much of her beauty and power, but the rest is all Brenn & Cesar. They pulled from their Caribbean origins and international DJ experiences to create a track pulsing with life. Mixed and mastered by Lionel Elsound, this iteration definitely has plenty of groove up front but escalates to dance-inducing highs.
