Cool Hunting c/o Quarterly Co: Shipment Four

Our latest shipment delivers a CH Zambia inspired custom citronella candle and surprise sculpture

Since the last installment of our Quarterly Co subscription service a lot has happened here at Cool Hunting—most importantly, our first CH Edition trip to South Africa and Zambia. CH co-founder Evan Orensten drew on the safari experience for our fourth Quarterly shipment, which reaches subscribers this week. Inside the small cardboard box is a custom-made travel candle designed in collaboration with our friend and South African curator Roelof le Roux and Chandler House, a Cape Town-based design studio.

Not only is the compact candle ideal for travel but the citronella and plant-based soy wax works wonders to keep pesky bugs at bay. Once the biodegradable, chemical and soot-free wax has burned away, a little wire mosquito sculpture appears. Made by artists of the African Home fair trade project in Cape Town, the handmade African mosquito model is a traditional keepsake native to South Africa.
