Reviving the classic artform in a provocative and accessible manner with open air contemporary peformance
After ferrying over to the beach community of Fire Island last summer, we attended the inaugural Fire Island Opera Festival. With the image of the grandeur of traditional opera burned into our minds, we were pleasantly surprised by how intimate, relatable and playful the experience was—from culinary themed performances to gender-bending ones. We recently spoke with Fire Island Opera’s Edwin Cahill (Artistic Director) and Bradley Moore (Music Director) to reflect on last summer’s performances, and to find out what’s next.
