Cindy Sherman for NYFF

The photographer covers the 50th anniversary poster

New York Film Festival is considered one of the most important platforms to celebrate film, and each season’s promotional posters offer aspiring and established painters and photographers a chance to showcase their talent at the same time. In the past celebrated artists such as Saul Bass, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol have created NYFF posters, and now for the festival’s 50th edition Cindy Sherman has been chosen to contribute.

Born of a collaboration between art collector Vera List and John D, Rockefeller III—List offering the idea and Rockefeller, the resources—the poster program began as a creative solution to flat-form advertising. A shot from celebrated contemporary photographer Cindy Sherman’s “Untitled Film Stills” was chosen to represent the “Golden” anniversary.
