Polite Sleeper: Lake Effect

lake_effect_front_hi_res.jpg

The first proper full-length from Brooklyn's Polite Sleeper, Lake Effect serves up nine songs straddling the hazy line between folk and indie rock. At turns somber and frenetic, singer/guitarist Jason Orlovich's earnest vocal timber and everyday observations echo more recent Mountain Goats records. Rounded out by Michael Curtes (keys and vocals) and Tim Wilson (drums and vocals), the group shows remarkable range and versatility for a three-piece.

After 2008's import-only Seens LP, the new record marks Sleeper's first introduction to their home nation and tomorrow kicks off off a string of dates in here and in Europe to support it (complete with a homemade trap kit and genuine stage piano). For those in New York, catch the stripped-down trio playing the Lake Effect release show tomorrow night at Brooklyn's Union Hall, where Jean on Jean (Molly from Out Hud) and the Bright Room will support them. (See details below.)

A fortuitous product placement, visitors to New York City's Amazon or iTunes.
