Vinyl Me, Please at Ace Hotel New York

Guests staying in room 212 are in for a musical (and visual) treat

Ace Hotel has always been hospitable to the arts—such as when they invited art collectives to live in Ace rooms during last year’s Fashion Week for a program called “Sleep / Walk“. Adding yet another thoughtful element to the overall cultural experience that is the Ace, a new year-long collaboration between the NYC location and Colorado-by-way-of-Chicago-based record-of-the-month club Vinyl Me, Please, will bring music (and beautiful album art) in wax form to Room 212.

Members of the vinyl subscription service (starting at $23 a month) receive a custom pressed LP “worthy of your time and attention” along with an original 12″ x 12″ art print and cocktail recipe. Past editions have included Father John Misty, J Dilla, Hot Chip, Thelonius Monk to Diarrhea Planet and more. Through this collaboration with the Ace, the latest Vinyl Me, Please record will decorate the walls of Room 212—changing on a monthly basis—and the lucky guests who find themselves in 212 can take it home after their stay. Sadly, guests can’t request the room specifically, but like any great album you’ve stumbled upon, it’s sort of the serendipity that adds to the magic. The series kicks off with Vinyl Me, Please’s September release: the first ever vinyl pressing of the 2012 album Pink by Four Tet.

“We were thinking a lot about new ways to approach in-room art at Ace Hotel New York and, having recently gotten friendly with the Vinyl Me, Please folks at our LA hotel, we had LP art on the brain,” Kelly Sawdon, Ace Hotel Partner and Chief Brand Officer, tells CH. “We share a passion for records and recognize the beauty inherent in the vinyl experience. We also love that they include limited edition artwork and a cocktail recipe with each release—little details one wouldn’t include unless they truly care.”

As for the actual process, Sawdon tells us, “Everything came together easily: we decided to frame and display the limited edition artwork, give the gift of vinyl to some lucky guests and top it off with listening sessions in our lobby, sharing the collaboration with friends and passers-by.”

The first Listening Session kicks off Tuesday, 15 September 2015 at 7PM in Ace Hotel’s lobby. It’s a free, low-key event that will take place every month for each new release from Vinyl Me, Please.
