Adidas Explores Bespoke Sneakers with 3D-Printed “Futurecraft”

It’s not the first time 3D printing has been used to create footwear, but Adidas’ new 3D-printed “Futurecraft” soles take the manufacturing method to a whole new level. Using intricate latticed layers, the German sports brand is able to construct a fully flexible midsole that takes into account a runner’s foot shape and unique pressure points, creating the ultimate pair of bespoke sneakers. Though it’s still in the prototyping stage, the technology may one day allow customers to walk into an Adidas store, scan their feet, and walk out with a one-of-a-kind set of shoes.
