Aether Horizon Motorcycle Jacket

Functional and with plenty of safety features, this piece doesn’t sacrifice aesthetics

Action apparel company Aether—whose ethos is to create the most durable, minimal and modern-minded gear—has just released one of the best motorcycle jackets we’ve had our hands on in some time. Aesthetically, the Horizon is much like Aether’s jacket intended for men (called the Skyline) but upon closer inspection, the Horizon is far from just a “women’s version.”

With sealed seams, the three-layer, abrasion-resistant shell is made from Japanese field nylon and is breathable and sturdy. Its mesh liner allows more air flow, along with the critical water-resistant pit-zips which allow for even more ventilation. Pit-zips are often left off motorcycle jackets and are almost non-existent on those intended for women. Aether went with light-weight D3O armor protection for the back, elbows and shoulders—a material that hardens on impact.

Other crucial details include cuff zippers and side zippers that allow for more layering. A double front zipper and snap closures give the jacket extra adjustability, meaning the rider can ride in many positions on various bikes, with a lot more freedom of movement. We found the external pockets were placed perfectly to avoid annoying tank clashes, something that happens so often with less thought-out designs.

The jacket’s fit is flattering and polished, but manages to be understated at the same time. In muted green, blue or black colorways, the Horizon is available online for $595.
