Astier de Villatte + Commune de Paris

Delicate scents and cubist-patterned porcelain in a French collaboration

Breaking out of their classic white aesthetic, Astier de Villatte has released a red, white and blue porcelain candle as part of a collaboration with Commune de Paris. The tricolor cube pattern is modeled after Astier de Villatte’s notebooks, and captures both the national and seasonal spirit. The aroma is predominately citrus, abetted by notes of nutmeg and benjamin gum with touches of green almond and coumarin. The candle comes packaged in a crisp white box sketched with a map of the world, nodding to Astier de Villatte’s other scents, which each take a cue from a different location—including Broadway, Aoyama and even Marienbad, the Czech health resort famously frequented by Franz Kafka and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Best of all, when the candle is finished, you’re left with a beautiful, handcrafted porcelain cup. Pick one up from Commune de Paris for around $143.
