Sunday, 1 June 2014, Bonhams Greenwich Concours D’Elegance Auction will be held in Greenwich, CT. Although this auction is not Bonham’s most exclusive, it is the quaintest and dearest, and is a true highlight on any aficionado’s calendar. This year’s auction will feature 405 lots—from memorabilia to stunningly restored sportscars, motorcycles, speedboats and even vintage fire engines. “We do all eras,” Evan Ide, Senior Motorcar Specialist for Bonhams tells CH. “This year we cover from 1905 to the 1990s. A full spread.”

The hot-ticket car on offer is John Fitch’s legendary 1966 one-of-a-kind prototype, the Fitch Phoenix. The late Fitch—who was one of the most important American race car drivers in history—was not only known as a driver, but also as an inventor. While his masterpiece Fitch Phoenix car was never realized in production, the vehicle being sold this weekend is the sole prototype, and truly a treasure. This striking car is causing a stir, and Ide says Bonhams have been “quite inundated” over the vehicle—promising a lively auction.

Other exciting cars include Lot 388, the Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopica and Ide says, “Lot 334, the 1973 1800ES Volvo Sportwagon with 13,000 miles on it—people are going crazy.” Besides the lots themselves, the audience adds to the buzzing atmosphere of the event and Ide—who has worked for the Bonhams car auctions for over a decade and has seen his fair share of interesting auctions—says that no matter what, “There are always good surprises.”
