Ilan Dei Venice: The Cruiser Collection

The furniture designer’s Porsche 356-inspired retro aesthetic sets the mood for this summer’s garden parties

Based in Venice, California, Ilan Dei perfectly captures the region’s quintessential laid-back, communal atmosphere with his outdoor furniture. The studio’s latest line, just in time for summer, offers four new pieces inspired by Hot Rod culture of the ’50s and ’60s—one car in particular; the vintage Porsche 356. Melding aluminum, steel and fiberglass, the designs are edgy (without sticking out like a sore thumb) and have a playful yet elegantly retro tinge. The curvy shapes beckon time spent outside and in the sun.

The Cruise Collection includes a lounge chair, swinging (or stationary) love seat and planter in bright colors and muted pastels. A real highlight of the range is the tea cart; the powder-coated aluminum frame and corian wheels (with Buna-N tred) rolls anywhere one might need cocktails, and the four colorways—ice, marigold, mint and pacific—are perfect for a casual but classy afternoon garden party.

Visit Ilan Dei’s Venice retail space in Los Angeles or the website, where the tea cart is available for $1,300.
