Thirty years ago Marley Hodgson founded a luggage brand inspired by his love of finely crafted leather goods, and named it for the Ghurka soldiers of the Himalayas. Though rooted in quality and craftsmanship that never really goes out of style, the brand has worked to stay modern under new ownership, most recently pairing with NBA star Lebron James on the Cavalier AW—Special Edition luggage collection.

Besides pairing with high-profile sports stars, Ghurka has expanded with a flagship store in NYC stocked with signature pieces like the Kilburn III twill and leather cargo duffel. Other partnerships in the last year have included an assortment of leather goods like coasters, place mats and menu covers for Eleven Madison Park restaurant, as well as a knife roll for chef Daniel Humm now available through Ghurka; and with Formula 1 Racing car company McLaren, a line of manual covers and travel trays in the auto’s signature orange.

The latest development in Ghurka’s busy year has been the opening their holiday pop-up store in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood at the end of October. Operating through 15 January 2013, the shop is meant to reflect Ghurka’s tradition of superior craftsmanship, superb functionality and timeless American style, and serve as a precursor to the company’s second New York store opening in the area later in the year.

Browse Ghurka’s entire collection on their website, with pricing ranging from $195 for a signature leather wallet to $1,495 for one of Ghurka’s limited edition bags.
