How Typography Saves Lives

Followers of The National Weather service may have noticed that the organization recently switched from messages written in all capitals to mixed-case letters. The switch may seem minor, but it could actually save someone’s life. Strings of capitals are actually more difficult to process, and many people become desensitized to the NWE’s messages if they’re always capitalized—missing important, life-saving alerts. But the importance of well-executed typography extends beyond just this one example, though, and into highway signs and airplane cockpit checklists. Read more at Pro Publica.
