An organic bug spray “powerful enough to combat prehistoric mosquitoes”

A stealth blend of all natural ingredients, each bottle of Meow Meow Tweet‘s herbal insect repellent is created by the capable hands of Jeff Kurosaki and Tara Pelletier, the creative duo behind the Bushwick-based artisanal apothecary. When not operating as the collaborative artists The Friendly Falcons, Kurosaki and Pelletier are busy making sensational scents that they apply to a range of therapeutic products, which spans vegan deodorant, lip balm, soaps, candles and now, bug spray.

Meow Meow Tweet tells us the recipe for their all natural herbal insect repellent is an organic, bare-bones version version of traditional bug sprays that use herbs and plant-based distillates. “There are no extra or superfluous ingredients. You don’t need chemicals to keep the bugs away! This mix will not only keep mosquitos away but also ticks, fleas and black flies,” they explain. The formula will keep you bite-free but at the same time, thanks to essential oils like lavender, rosemary, lemongrass, citronella, cedar wood and fir needle, you won’t smell like you’ve doused yourself in classic bug spray.

Described by Meow Meow Tweet as “powerful enough to combat prehistoric mosquitoes,” the purely-derived repellent is now available from their online shop for $18 for a 3.8oz spray bottle, complete with a biodegradable label they designed in collaboration with artist and ITP grad student Sarah Hallacher.
