Mercedes F015
One part stage coach, one part Blade Runner—this concept car pushes the notion of Luxury in Motion
Tonight, in their International Consumer Electronics Show keynote, Mercedes presented a vision of future mobility. The F015 Luxury in Motion concept car addresses the idea that our most prized notions will be space and time. “The car grants access to the single most important luxury goods of the 21st century: privacy space and quality time” Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars explained.
The F015 is an autonomous vehicle design with references ranging from 19th century stage coaches to Blade Runner fantasies. The exterior design is radical and futuristic, while the interior design is peaceful and communal. Without concern for watching the road passengers are free to turn and face each other instead of all facing forward. Gesture interfaces and window data displays offer new ways for passengers to control their environment, while informational LEDs and laser projections are used on the outside of the car to communicate with other vehicles and pedestrians.
To date, autonomous driving solutions have been focused on making the car as we know it drive itself. Tonight Mercedes upped the ante by considering the greater implications for both passengers and the surroundings when the car is no longer dependent on a human operator.
