A Tom Dixon Takeover at NYC’s The Store

A new concept space from MING makes its debut by hosting the British designer’s products for the next three months

Physical retail stores are no longer just places where credit cards get charged and items are purchased—online shopping satisfies those two requirements easily; but passers-by yearn for a place for interaction, discovery and being. Thus explains the recent crop of experience-focused spaces, like NYC’s intimate design store Calliope in the West Village. The latest comes from young creative company MING, who, aside from doing project work for clients like Safilo eyewear, have just opened a space simply called The Store, on 25 Peck Slip just by the Brooklyn Bridge.

With no online presence nor future plans for e-commerce, The Store aims to be considered first and foremost a physical destination, geared towards bringing together the design community. To get the people visiting, The Store is kicking off with a series of quarterly events—and the first is a Tom Dixon takeover. For the next three months, the space will be stocked with products from the luxe, metallic-loving British designer—with writing instruments, barware, scents and more available for purchase. Some of his lighting designs, recently debuted in Milan, will also be on display—though not for sale.

In a time where conventional retail outlets are starting to feel outdated, The Store is an example of how spaces can evolve and keep up with the work of cutting-edge designers. Celebrating its grand opening last night with the Dixon, The Store is now open to the public 10AM to 6PM.
