Mountain-Inspired North Drinkware
A handblown pint glass with the real 3D data of Mt Hood molded into the base

Launching on Kickstarter today, this handblown glass features a base modeled after Mt Hood. Only, this is no artist rendition—it’s formed on the actual 3D data of the famed mountain. It’s striking, beautiful and the product of over 12 months of development. All the work has been done in Oregon, and the folks behind it firmly believe that craft beer deserves an equally well-crafted glass.
“Translating actual 3D data of Mt Hood into a North glass was a really fun and interesting technical design challenge. We started with the USGS data of Mt Hood and incorporated it into the CAD 3D model of our glass,” explains Nic Ramirez, a founding partner. “Our next challenge was taking our design from the digital to the physical world so we could begin our prototyping process. To do so, we made a 3D print of our glass on a MakerBot and then poured a plaster mold from that print. Working with an expert Portland-based glassblower we began blowing glass into the mold.” The team first blew a bubble of glass, then inserted it into the mold before blowing again. It proved their concept would work, and by honing every step over time, from the 3D design and prototype molds to the actual glass blowing technique, they improved the final product. Ramirez continues, “Every round of prototypes offered new insight and learning as we worked toward a Kickstarter-ready Oregon Pint.”
