UK Graphic Artists Celebrate the Year of the Bus

Putting original artwork (and a bus map) in Londoners’ wallets with 10 limited edition Oyster card-holders

This year happens to be the Year of the Bus, and a celebratory campaign by Transport for London (TfL) and London Transport Museum is recognizing buses as “arteries of the capital.” Pretty apt, considering London is home to one of the largest and most accessible bus networks in the world.

TfL is collaborating with Outline Artists (you might be familiar with the small illustration agency’s work if you frequent CH) and
designjunction for the second year in a row to curate a series of limited edition Oyster card-holders. For the special campaign, Outline Artists went beyond just artists in their own stable to commission some pretty household names—all UK-based—to design 10 wallets.

CH favorites like Noma Bar, Jean Jullien, Kate Moross and Crispin Finn and more have taken a stab at adding some delight and beauty to the card-holder. With original artwork on the exterior, and a London bus map on the inside, each wallet is a small, functional work of art.

The limited edition Oyster card-holders retail for £7 each and are available from the London Transport Museum’s online shop as well as in person from 18-21 September 2014 at designjunction, where the Outline Editions’ stand is located at G14.
