Public School + Tumi Pre-Fall Backpack and Tote

NASA-approved Cubic Tech material composes the brands’ second collaboration

Following up their successful Fall 2015 collaboration, fashion innovator Public School and design-forward travel and lifestyle accessory brand TUMI have released their Pre-Fall 2016 capsule collection. Designed as part of Public School’s first-ever international runway show, where we first spied the pieces, the striking all-white backpack and tote play off of the debut collaboration (which also included a lightweight polycarbonate roller)—but employ more than a color change. There’s material innovation at hand and, beyond just appearances, it impacts functionality.

Both bags are primarily composed of a NASA-approved material known as Cubic Tech—which looks and feels a bit like the tarp utilized by Zurich bag-maker Freitag. Only, this non-woven material is super-light, ultra-durable and has almost no give. The fabric also happens to be water-resistant, for added functionality. Public School accented the geometric stylings of the pieces with both neoprene and leather—flourishes that make it further distinct, from the tassels on the zippers to the perforated backing. White bags might not be for everyone, but these are playful pieces, designed with attention to all details. And further, each limited edition backpack and tote will be numbered—and signed by Public School designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne.

The backpack ($495) and tote ($395) are available at Public School online.
