There’s no getting in the way of a skier or snowboarder on the hunt for untracked, deep snow. While the lengths some riders go to for a fresh covering might seem ridiculous to an outsider, alpine touring veterans know that the journey up is all part of the reward. Born of this desire to access new lines, three skiers in the Italian Alps set out to improve the way we move on the mountain. The result is the Snowfoot, a combination crampon and compact snowshoe that fits any boot—from your average snow day footwear to ski boots. The quick-release closure makes for easy on-and-off while eight stainless steel spikes give traction on rock, ice and hard snow. Meanwhile, the temperature and impact-resistant thermoplastic deck provides floatation in deep snow without inhibiting movement. For accessing terrain that requires a mix of light alpine climbing, trekking and deep snow—the 1200 gram Snowfoot may very well be the smartest weapon of choice.

Keep an eye on Snowfoot as the release date approaches later this month.
