Tokyo Exhibition Celebrates 40 Years of the Walkman

First released in July 1979, the SONY Walkman changed the way we listen to music—and launched a genuine cultural revolution. Celebrating “The Day the Music Walked” is a new exhibition in Tokyo that traces the Walkman’s history, from cassette to CD versions to current iterations. There are 40 personal stories from well-known individuals for a section called “My Story, My Walkman” and a Walkman Wall with 230 different versions on display. Whether delighting in early-1980s lettering or Y2K designs, visitors will experience a journey in technology, design and innovation. The show is on now through 1 September at Ginza Sony Park.
