Leather meets wood in the sophisticated tables, hangers and daybed designed and made in Sweden

The name of Sweden’s Vera Novis might mean “true novice,” but the assured design of the brand suggests its creators are anything but beginners. This furniture collection was created by Hillevi Magnell and Sara Rudenstam of the Smålands Skinnmanufaktur and Formbruket brands. In this collaboration, the two brands combined wood and leather to explore the meeting of the materials, which has resulted in a beautiful collection that features tables, stools and a stunning daybed.

“The focus of the collection is on natural materials and local production. The materials we used and their capacities shaped the design of the products, with classic, natural components coming together in a sophisticated design. The materials’ coloring give the pieces a modern feel,” Magnell says.

Vera Novis is produced using only Swedish materials by manufacturers that are as local to the designers’ base in Jönköping as possible. “This gives us the possibility to visit our manufacturers often, to be a part of the production and talk to and learn from the people making it,” Magnell explains.

The collection’s leather details are handmade using chrome free leather from Tärnsjö Garveri, the world’s only environmentally certified tannery, and the wood is ash from Swedish forests. Vera Novis premiered at Sweden’s Formex trade show and will be available soon in the Smålands Skinnmanufaktur webshop.
