Weiss Reimagines Their American Issue Field Watch for the Artisans of Freedom Initiative
A collaboration aimed at enhancing artisan training in the United States
Today, Allen Edmonds announced a marketplace of American-made products as part of their Artisans of Freedom initiative. The collection spans jackets, pants, watches, suits, bags and glasses—all produced in the United States following traditional methods.
Cameron Weiss, one of the handful of artisans included in the initiative, owns and manufactures his own line of watches, called the Weiss Watch Company. For Allen Edmonds he customized his American Issue Field Watch with an entirely new aesthetic.
The watch is manufactured in its entirety in Los Angeles and features a black DLC coated 316L stainless steel case, black oxide steel hands with Super Luminova and a fully mechanical, limited edition black plated US-made Caliber 1003 movement. An Artisans of Freedom marker sits at the top of the watch face.
The watch sports a black Horween leather strap—the same, US-made leather Allen Edmonds uses—with a matching black buckle. The release, limited to 100 pieces, speaks to the initiative’s emphasis on quality, lineage and artisanal work.
“It’s all actually trying to promote artisans and craftsmanship—things like watchmaking where it’s a dying art,” Weiss says. “20% of the sales go toward the Artisans of Freedom project where they’re actually giving back to help train young people. Just like I would love to see more watchmakers so I have more people to hire in the US, they would love to have more shoemakers.”
The exclusive Weiss watch ($2195) is available on Allen Edmonds website now—along with a few other hand-picked products from the community of craftsmen.
