Animated Recipe: Vanilla Oat Milk

A lactose-free and easy-to-make alternative that can be enjoyed as is or in a coffee

Give non-dairy milk a try with this lactose-free alternative. Not only is it low in cholesterol and fat, it also contains twice the amount of vitamin A than its dairy counterpart. This version contains agave to slightly sweeten, but you can easily omit. Add some unsweetened cocoa powder for another variation.

Ingredients:

1 cup steel-cut oats

1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

3 cups + 1/4 cup water

3 tablespoons agave

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

After soaking oats in water for an hour, rinse thoroughly.

Combine rinsed oats and water in a blender and blend on high for three minutes.

Strain through a nut milk bag or several layers of cheesecloth.

Return to blender and add additional 1/4 cup water, agave, vanilla extract and salt. Blend.

Enjoy!
