Battenkill Brittle

Gluten-free energy bars from Vermont

Battenkill-Brittle-1.jpg

Born from founder Leslie Kielson’s energy snack recipe experiments, Vermont’s Battenkill Brittle makes bars and crumble full of healthful seeds. A departure from the dense concoctions found in oatmeal bars, Battenkill’s version is light, crunchy and lightly sweetened. The gluten-free energy bars serve as the perfect treat or snack, and are great for the outdoors or stashed away in the car. They are always in our bags when we travel. The crunchy delights are packed with organic sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds—all of which are held together by organic brown rice syrup, Vermont maple syrup and pecan meal.

We discovered Battenkill Brittle while touring Vermont, and it’s been a staple at CH HQ since then. Available online, $2.75 gets a package with three square bars. If you live in the area, look for them at the Walloomsac Farmer’s Market in Bennington, VT and the Dorset Farmers’ Market in Dorset, VT.
