The Dead Rabbit’s Irish Coffee Recipe

Noah Rothbaum secures the components for Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon’s cocktail variation

There’s always a time and a place for an Irish Coffee—and if you’re going to commit to one, it might as well be the best. Spirits expert, Daily Beast Senior Editor and CH friend Noah Rothbaum might have just uncovered exactly that. Not only did Rothbaum secure the recipe for the Dead Rabbit‘s Irish Coffee, he also makes the case for having one when at the world-famous bar. As for what’s inside: Bushmills and coffee from Sumatra beans do the legwork here and everything else comes down to proportion and nuance. This is simple enough to make at home but as Rothbaum makes clear, it’s worth ordering at the acclaimed establishment.

Dead Rabbit’s Irish Coffee

1 oz Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey

.625 oz rich demerara sugar syrup

3.25 oz Sumatra coffee

Fresh whipped cream and nutmeg

Pour the coffee and sugar syrup into a six-ounce glass leaving about half an inch of room for cream. Garnish with freshly whipped cream and a dusting of grated nutmeg.
