GG’s Garden Dinner Kit

A CSA-style box from the NYC pizzeria brings the square pies home

GG’s, a sister business with Nicholas Morgenstern’s other NYC joints Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream and El Rey coffee beer, is the relatively young East Village hangout gaining repeat customers hunkering after their dense, square grandma-style pies (they also have it printed on a beach towel for those who just can’t get enough). This summer, chef-owner Bobby Hellen is offering a Garden Dinner Kit (think your local CSA meets Blue Apron) that will help you make a foolproof version at home from peak seasonal ingredients. This month’s dinner-for-four recipes are black radish and pea shoot square pie with chimichurri, ricotta stuffed grape leaves in chamomile broth, and a garden salad with raspberry vinaigrette. The herbs and greens are plucked from GG’s 18-bed backyard garden (maintained by a dedicated groundskeeper, Erik Groszyk); the sauces and dough (unbromated, unbleached, and made from locally sourced flour) are handmade at the restaurant. And because the dough is par-baked, dinner only takes 10 minutes to make.

The $40 Dinner Kit is available weekly through 25 August 2016. Pick up at the restaurant on Thursdays between 4-7PM—a time that coincides with their happy hour. Grandma Pie slices are just $3 each; cocktails are $7.
