IFNi Coffee Candy

The Japanese roasting company creates an all-natural treat from roasted, ground beans

We came across IFNi Roasting Co’s coffee candy in Tokyo. The roastery and wholesale coffee sellers (who also have grand plans to develop their own, original coffee equipment) have a small café in Shizuoka where they are based. Made in collaboration with a Japanese candy factory, these coffee candies are created from roasted and ground beans—there’s no liquid, instant coffee or synthetic ingredients. You can feel the grainy texture as you get closer to the center.

Without a trace of bitterness—yet not too sweet—the candy packs rich, bold coffee flavor into a small hard orb, evoking that tingling aroma of the day’s first batch of coffee. We especially like how long the candy lasts, though it doesn’t overpower or leave a lingering aftertaste like black licorice can. IFNi calls their candy a “palate freshener.” The coffee candy is available in three different flavors: savory black, golden mild and fresh mint. Find them at the IFNi café in Shizuoka or at their online shop. And while you’re there, check out their coffee syrups as well.
