Naturally-Dyed Blue Wine Coming Stateside
After weathering a lengthy regulatory controversy—because, can blue wine actually be called white wine and is it even wine—the Spanish brand Gik will now bring its neon-hued vino to the States (well, three at the start). In theory, this drink is a sweet white wine incorporating “99% wine [using white and red grapes from vineyards in La Rioja, Zaragoza, León, and Castilla-La Mancha, according to Eater] and 1% grape must.” The latter, drawn from grape skin, features anthocyanin and is what lends the wine color. Thus, this is a product from 100% grapes. We can’t attest to the flavor profile as of yet, but it’s certainly bound to be an Instagram success.
