Solid wood cutting boards and butcher blocks made by hand in the Great White North

When product designer Geoffrey Lilge agreed to outfit the kitchen and dining room of his wife Cindy’s future award-winning restaurant, Highlands Kitchen, he unknowingly started a new career. His newfound love of solid woods and their simple purity led to OnOurTables, an evolving collection of artisan-made kitchen objects. Making hand-polished, solid wood charcuterie boards, cutting boards, butcher blocks and other kitchen accessories in his Alberta woodshop, Lilge applies a skillful hand to elaborate on traditional designs.

Each board is cut from solid, FSC-certified walnut, outfitted with accents like solid brass handles and finished with natural oils and locally sourced beeswax to accentuate the rich grains and organic shine. In the same spirit as the charcuterie and cutting boards, OnOurTable’s multipurpose knife boxes and knife shelves blend a strong industrial aesthetic with pristine minimalism.

After expertly crafted slab cutting boards and patchwork butcher’s block caught our attention, we were drawn into the company website’s Design Journal and Gastro Journal sections. The well curated blogs focus on company news, travel, design and, of course, recipes. Each entry features beautiful photography accompanied by detailed stories sure to entertain a wide range of the food obsessed.

OnOurTable’s expanding collection of solid wood charcuterie boards, cutting boards, butcher blocks and kitchen objects are available online and in stores at one of many international retailers where they sell for between $90-$390 (Canadian). Make sure to keep an eye on OnOurTables in the coming months as Lilge informs us he’s been working with a local potter and glass blower for some new products that’ll be dropping in August.
