Netflix Dominates the SAG Awards

While it might not get as much pop culture attention as the Golden Globes or Oscars, the SAG Awards carry tremendous value—in that actors themselves are voting on and honoring the best acting performances of the previous year (and arguably no one understands the craft better than those living it). Two of this year’s most important awards—ensemble cast in a drama series, and ensemble cast in a comedy series—both went to Netflix programs. These awards celebrate a show with outstanding all-around performances. “Stranger Things” and “Orange is the New Black” won respectively. Further, Claire Foy from “The Crown” took home the award for best female actor in a drama series. This is very good affirmation for Netflix, whose original content growth continues to shake up traditional TV, film and limited series concepts.
