Robyn sings on a 10-minute track, new music by the Pixies, a creepy Bonobo video and more in our musical bonanza

Mr Tophat feat. Robyn: Trust Me

Robyn’s latest collaboration with fellow Swede Mr Tophat is a whopping 10 minutes long, but doesn’t feel like it—instead the track ebbs and flows in a manner that’s entirely engaging. Mr Tophat previously remixed Robyn’s 1999 song “Main Thing” and now the dream team releases “Trust Me.” With Robyn’s tender vocals contrasting moments of jittery screeches, this synth-heavy single really is a bit of a journey.

Bonobo: Kerala

“Kerala” is the first single from Bonobo’s album Migration (set for release January next year) and today, its scary, paranoia-filled video was released. Starring Gemma Arterton and directed by Bison, the video is a little dizzying, but it matches the track which is—in Bonobo style—incredibly atmospheric and layered. Gold star for those who recognized the sample of Brandy’s 1994 track, “Baby.”

Le Monkey: Geode

With a healthy dose of considered, electronic optimism, Grenoble, France-based producer Le Monkey delivers “Geode.” It’s four and a half minutes of developing, narrative musical landscapes that rise to pleasurable heights. Off of Substance Matinale (released today via PUZL Records) the track is uncommonly accessible, perhaps because of its upbeat beauty.

Pixies: Classic Masher

The Pixies weren’t joking when they named their new track “Classic Masher.” It’s got all the makings of a classic Pixies’ track: chugging guitars, simultaneous vocals, considered lyrics and upbeat drums. The track, hailing from the band’s recently released album Head Carrier, comes complete with a music video directed by the band’s bassist Paz Lenchantin (who replaced longtime member Kim Deal). The stop-motion wonder features everything from a car trip to a talking piano. It’s as eccentric and enjoyable as one would expect.
