Holly Miranda + The New Asylum Choir: Midnight Oil
For her beautiful new track “Midnight Oil,” singer/songwriter Holly Miranda has been joined by 28 other voices who unite under the moniker New Asylum Choir—including icon Ani DiFranco and Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio. A cover of an obscure Cris Williamson song from her 1978 album Lumiere, “Midnight Oil” carries a message of empowerment wrapped in a sing-along chorus—and its mission is to support the Sioux Nation reservation. Steve Lacy: Dark Red
The Internet member Steve Lacy has just released the track “Dark Red” from his debut solo project Steve Lacy’s Demo. The song is a groovy, alt-rock work with plenty of soulful tinges. The tune simmers away almost effortlessly and bodes very well for the upcoming project—set for release on Friday.
Pale Waves: There’s a Honey
Manchester-based indie-pop outfit Pale Waves just released their debut single “There’s A Honey” and it’s an uncommonly catchy tune. With musical layers referencing The Cure and label-mates The 1975 (two of whom produced this track), and surprisingly intimate lyrics, the song delivers thoughtful, dance-worthy buoyancy. There’s a Honey, the album, will be released 21 April on Dirty Hit.
Lana Del Rey: Love
After sharing her new track over the weekend, Lana Del Rey has just released the video for “Love.” The visuals match the dreamy track, with the Rich Lee-directed clip utilizing lots of black and white shots as well as many washed-out moments—that’s before the entire thing takes a turn and becomes a retro sci-fi narrative. The song itself is quintessentially LDR—lush, moody and sultry. It’s expected that she will announce a new album soon, the first since Honeymoon came out two years ago.
