Shy Girls: 4WZ

Dan Vidmar’s R&B project Shy Girls has returned with a moody mixtape, 4WZ, featuring guest spots from Junglepussy, Rome Fortune and Tei Shi—and a tiny cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Wonderful.” The mixtape is unashamedly melancholy, spacey and sleazy—all at once.

Late Night Alumni: This This This

Late Night Alumni kick off 2015 with their new single This This This.” Balancing Becky Jean William’s lush vocals against clean synth melodies, this track will have you in a grooving rapture into the wee hours.

Kali Uchis: Ridin Round

“Baby understand—I don’t need a man. Fuck me over, I’ll fuck you worse and take off to Japan,” the LA-based songwriter and Colombian native Kali Uchis coos in the track “Ridin Round.” While comparisons to Kreayshawn and Amy Winehouse are aplenty, Uchis asserts her independence and shows off chicano culture the way she wants to.

Shlohmo: Buried

The creepy, slow-burning video for Shlohmo’s “Buried” follows a pregnant woman through dark, deserted streets; on a visual journey that is grainy and cinematic and totally up to the viewer’s interpretations.

Love Is A Battlefield: The Bittersweet Valentine’s Party Playlist

The “love gone wrong” song selections (from Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison” to Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”) by writer Jennifer Boeder for her Bittersweet Valentine’s Party Playlist are spot-on, but it’s her funny and clever descriptions that make it bookmark-worthy.
