Simian Mobile Disco: Dervish

Kitty Cash’s mixtape, Karen O’s solo album, Simian Mobile Disco and more in the music we tweeted this week

English rock band-turned-electronic music duo Simian Mobile Disco are well-loved for their dark, addictive dance beats and passion for analog gear. They up the ante, however, with “Dervish,” the second single from their upcoming album Whorl. The album was recorded on two modular synths, two sequencers and a mixer near Joshua Tree National Park, in front a crowd of about 900 people. Eschewing typical verse-chorus-bridge sections for an entirely instrumental journey, the unpredictable melodic droplets in “Dervish” are accompanied by equally minimalist graphics from a custom-made oscilloscope. Whorl releases 9 September 2014 via Anti- Records.
