JYUNI White Collection

ASICS takes a meditative look at the future with their new capsule collection

Japanese brand eponymous footwear company—the parent of ASICS. Aside from a few outliers, most products ASICS has released over the years have led with athletic innovation clad in classic styling. The brand-new JYUNI White Collection—announced last month and available this week—aims to change all that.

Intrigued by the future-forward aesthetic, we spoke with the line’s designer Ikuo Sumimoto about this limited capsule collection. For starters, the name JYUNI translates to “12” and is a reference to the constraints of time, seemingly as a meditation but also an effort to break such conventions. “We wanted to express the silent, transitory moment between the ‘on’ and ‘off’ in our daily lives. This moment has always been tied into the fabric of Japanese culture,” Sumimoto shared. This idea of transition is reflected in the full, flowing cuts of all three pieces in the collection—the woven hooded jacket, knit short pant and short-sleeve top.

All three pieces feature a glow-in-the-dark hexagon graphic—the mark of the line. Each of the white pieces is made from different materials, best suited to function. The jacket ($270) is water-resistant nylon, shorts ($125) are looper terry cloth and shirt ($105) is a stretchy blend. Check JYUNI on Instagram for retailers.
