Technical road cycling gear has long-suffered from a dearth in style. While no roadie would ever shy away from spandex, the color schemes and the overwhelmingly Windows ’98-looking graphics in the industry have been overdue for a change for some time. Luckily, companies like Rapha and Castelli’s recent collaboration with Poler have been shaking things up a bit. Relative newcomer to the styled-out road scene is Sydney, Australia’s Attaquer. Attaquer was born out of a desire to do something different in cycling say founders Stevan Musulin and Greg Hamer, ” we wanted something that would also change people’s preconceptions of what cyclists are meant to look like, or meant to wear,” says Musulin. Some of the wildest designs perhaps ever crafted into spandex (which is certainly saying something), Attaquer’s designs are inspired by street art, with many of the kits designed in partnership with local artists and artisans, including Gold Coast surfboard-shaper Dead Kooks.
With no shortage of kitsch and humor in their designs, Attaquer’s kits are all business on the road. Manufactured in Italy from premium Italian fabric, the bibs and jerseys are breathable, durable and lightweight. Compression panels in the bib shorts keep you pushing the pedals longer while a 50+ high UV protection in the fabric keeps skin protected from the sun. A versatile triple-thickness chamois in the shorts provides exceptional comfort on long rides. Fit for professional riding, Attaquer’s kits never fail to turn heads; “I wanted to attract new people to the sport by offering interesting and bold designs,” Musulin says. “When someone is driving past an Attaquer design that stands out and catches their attention, I always like to imagine to myself that they might go home and get inspired to get into cycling.”
