Baggu Fall/Holiday 2012

New materials and fresh colors give the standard tote new life

If tote bags have any kind of cache, carrying a bright Baggu is at the top of the list. Since its release, the affordable Standard Baggu has been made over in bold, graphic prints as well as solid styles in every color of the rainbow. Now Baggu has one-upped their practical yet chic nylon and canvas backpacks and weekender bags with hold-alls in suede and leather. The new suede version of the medium ($160) and small Leather Bag ($120) now comes in sumptuous, jewel-toned hues of emerald, blue and fuchsia. By translating the simple shape of the original nylon bag into natural milled leather, Baggu has created a moderately priced item for everyday that has just a touch of luxe to it.

The suede bags made their debut at the Gift Fair in New York and are currently available online, but you’ll have to wait just a little while longer for the 17 September release of the Leather Tote ($240), a wide-mouthed bag that easily transitions from business to travel to practical shopper. For those leather skeptics out there, rest assured that Baggu has seen to it that the Leather Tote be made in the most conscientious way possible, and is handcrafted in NYC’s Garment District from extra-supple, full-bodied leather tanned in upstate NY.

Baggu started introducing new shapes to their collection last season with the Drawstring Purse, and this new tote, with its clean lines and understated silhouette, is a step up for the brand. Visit Baggu online to shop the suede styles and see the entire line.
