Reflect Forward: Carolyn Massey

British menswear designer, Carolyn Massey unveiled a behind-the-scenes peak of her Autumn/Winter 2009 collection in an exhibit at Craft Central in London yesterday. Using the archives of the Museum of London, The National Army Museum and The Museum of Eton Life at Eton School for her research, Massey revives a theme of forgotten historic details and silhouettes from the tailoring of the gentleman-scholar era.
Massey, at just 27 years of age, has already established quite the reputation with five seasons of her own label under her belt and a capsule collection for Topman which has sold out for the four seasons it's been around. The young designer is the first recipient to win Craft Central’s Reflect Forward Award 2009, a grant toward researching in the archives of museums of her choice. "Carolyn's proposal to research historical garments whilst creating a cutting edge contemporary look sat really well with the Reflect Forward aim to enable designers to use museum collections as starting points for creating bold and fascinating new work," says Kate Osborn of Craft Central.
