The Dallas-based brand offers traditionally tailored garments in seven refined designs
In the world of menswear, customization and tailoring are commonplace. Yet, when looking for bespoke women’s wear, it is hard to find a designer that doesn’t fall within the prohibitively expensive category of couture. This is where Double R, a new e-commerce site, comes in. Founded by couple Jen and Ravi Ratan, the Dallas-based brand offers an affordable way for women to order custom shirts by leveraging technology and cutting out the middleman. Modeled after retailers like Blank Label, Double R simplifies the tailoring experience by using a fit algorithm that requires four measurements, which can be easily figured out at home. To ensure accurate calculations, they provide comprehensive step-by-step video instructions, so that even someone new to the process can succeed. Once entered into the system, the measurements are saved to the customer’s profile, so that they can simply press pay the second time around.
Due to the nature of the site, Double R’s style selection is limited to a signature collection featuring a fitted and boyfriend silhouette as well as a simple shirtdress. Supplemented seasonally with a small capsule of three to four styles, this trifecta is the brand’s secret to keeping costs down. Available in a rainbow of fabrics including premium cottons from producers like Thomas Mason, Double R’s combinations are seemingly endless. However, it’s the ingenious details like a hidden snap between the second and third button add a level a luxury to an otherwise nondescript staple.
When recently testing out Double R’s services, we opted for a custom Tailored style, though the Tunic and Camp Shirt were alluring options as well. And, just as its name suggests, the shirt arrived with a snug, flattering fit, which of course was the most impressive aspect. Adjusted to the specifications of a taller colleague, the proportions came out perfectly long and lean. While there is no word yet on how they might expand their line, Double R is a smart choice for picking up expertly cut basics.
