As far as high-performance heritage brands go, very few carry the history of Helly Hansen, who’ve been snatching up consumers and awards for their technological advancements since 1877. For their latest line of men’s winter coats, the Ask Collection, the brand references the deeper history of Norse mythology—Ask was the first man on earth, born of Odin’s breath upon a log on the seashore. All of Helly Hansen’s products are made for interacting with Mother Nature, from the sea to the mountaintops, but the Ask collection does so with elevated style. From multi-layers to protective shell fabrics, this line is built to endure the elements comfortably, but with an aesthetic that’s beyond anything they’ve produced before.
The five-piece collection includes a winter coat, city parka, raincoat and sport jacket. Most impressive of all, however, is the Ask Business Coat. The sleek, mid-thigh-length jacket sports a three-layer construction—including a removable down liner vest. The shell is composed of the brand’s Helly Tech proprietary waterproof fabric. Inside, you’ll find both European luxury 800FP goose down and a super-light melange Japanese down liner fabric. Beyond being cozy and warm, the most engaging part of the coat happens to be that it was designed to wear over a suit—and match a dress-up aesthetic. Altogether, this is something many people seek out, but rarely find.
