Mack Weldon Updates the Polo Shirt

The tailored but sporty Vesper features a micro-mesh fabric blend

The polo shirt can be a confusing staple piece to some. It’s a bit dressy and a bit casual. Its existence in that interspace has made it popular for over a century—as it was initially primarily attached to sports (polo, golf and tennis). While it may be easy to throw on and is ultimately comfortable, the collar nods toward something more than a regular T-shirt. Remarkably, there have been very few updates to the style over the years, but today, CH favorite Mack Weldon offers a brand new take: the Vesper Polo. And it is their debut sportwear piece. Visually, it might appear the same as any other polo at first. However, the brand strikes a balance between an even sportier look and a tailored fit. But fabrics play the most important role here, as with all Mack Weldon apparel.

The Vesper has been crafted from a micro-mesh lightweight knit fabric that the brand developed itself. It’s a blend of (primarily) combed cotton for breathability and (a small percentage of) polyester for stretch—maximizing coolness while allowing for active use. Unsurprisingly, the shirt is as comfortable as the brand’s socks and underwear lines, as well as their athleisure releases last year. But with inspiration drawn from the most recent series of James Bond films, the fit is classy and the collar stays sharp.

The Mack Weldon Vesper Polo is available online for $68 in Kentucky Blue, True Black, Bright White or Total Eclipse Navy.
