Nudie Jeans’ Limited Edition Bloodline Collection

Celebrating their 15th anniversary, the company releases a range of dry selvedge denims

Swedish denim brand Nudie Jeans has, since its inception in 2001, always been purveyors and fans of Japanese selvedge (“selvage” to some) denim and now—for their 15th anniversary—they are releasing a very limited edition range. The Bloodline collection is made up of dry selvedge denim crafted using cotton, paper, hemp and bamboo; meaning they not only look great, they are also eco-friendly—keeping in line with the brand’s ethos. Considering the material choices we were curious how each denim feels so we got our hands on some pairs.

Dry Hemp Selvedge

The heavy 14oz denim is made up of 42% hemp and 58% organic cotton. The hemp fibers are longer than cotton which gives the material a more uniform look, but a bit of slub adds organic texture. They’re dyed with a dark redcast natural indigo and the pocket design features an orange Nudie mark. Though the hemp is hearty and rigid, these jeans feel the most like a classic dry cotton. The denim is from Japan’s Nihon Menpu mill.

Dry Bamboo Selvedge

Though bamboo linen only makes up 17% of this fabric, its characteristics are very distinctive. The lightweight 7.1oz denim features bamboo that’s pulverized and spun with organic cotton in a completely non-chemical process. These pairs are denoted with green pocket stitching and the very textured, slubby denim feels lightweight, yet sturdy—perfect for warmer climates. The denim is from Toyoshima mill.

Dry Paper Selvedge

Though the 31% paper content 12.5oz denim jeans are technically the middle-weight, they feel like the heaviest of the group. This is perhaps because they’re the tightest weave of the three, which also makes them feel the most rigid. The surface of the material is the most smooth and consistent of the three as well. Their paper content is called out through white pocket stitching. The denim is from Toyoshima mill.

Launching tomorrow, the Bloodline collection is available online and at select retailers. All three materials will be available in Nudie’s Lean Dean and Grim Tim cuts and the Dry Help Selvedge will be used to make a Billy jacket.
