Paul Smith x Burton Mark XIII

Yes, this really is snowboard gear. I know it looks incredibly traditional, but it's the second limited-edition collaboration between Paul Smith (always one of my favorites) and Burton Snowboards, and has just hit the shops. Last time they got together, in 2005, they came up with navy pinstripe-suit inspired gear straight out of the city.

This time, the countryside looks like the starting point for what's called the Mark XIII collection.

At right is the double-breasted trench coat, made from cavalry twill and featuring silver-plated buttons as well as a traditional guardsman crest. It costs £675 while matching trousers are available for £275. Above right is the £495 take on a traditional single-breasted hacking jacket, in green-hunting check with printed pocket-linings and stitch detailing. Both are obviously water proof.

At first glance, I really like what the companies have come up with. Sporting it while gunning down a mountain may be a different matter though.
