Shinola Limited Edition 40mm Runwell

The Detroit-based brand delivers their first batch of American-made watches

After witnessing Shinola‘s dedication to quality manufacturing in Detroit first hand last July, we backed the brand by pre-ordering their first watch, the 1,500 piece limited edition 40mm Runwell (which shares a name with their flagship bicycle) with a black face and a tan Horween strap a few months back. These first watches off the line are now shipping to their lucky owners. I was lucky enough to pick up ours at the factory, which is now in full swing. The wood boxed watch is delivered with a handwritten note and a tin of leather care balm to keep the band in good condition.

Making the arrival of Shinola’s first watch even more timely, today marks the opening of Shinola’s flagship store in Midtown Detroit. The expansive space now gives Shinola fans the first opportunity to see their products—which include leather goods, hand-made bicycles assembled on site, and watches—in person. Shinola’s second location in NYC’s Tribeca neighborhood opens in July 2013.

Visit the Detroit brick and mortar space in person or check out the American-made goods online. Shinola is working hard to get their workshop to full production, so you’ll likely encounter sold out signs on many of the styles, which are also available from Barneys. Even more styles for both men and women launch this fall. For more looks at the recently delivered, limited edition Runwell 40mm watch, see the slideshow.
