Wax and Wool by Woolrich + Almond Surfboards

California coastal style meets Pennsylvania wool in this beach-ready collaboration

On the surface, Woolrich and Almond Surfboards don’t appear to have much in common. The Pennslyvania-based wool company has been making tried and true workwear for over 180 years and is home to the oldest vertically integrated woolen mill in the US. Meanwhile, in sunny Newport Beach, CA Dave Allee and his band of craftsman balance time in the workshop with time in the water. Look closer however and you’ll see they’re bonded by a mutual commitment and reverence to American manufacturing. Just in time for a warm weather escape (or if you’re lucky, warm weather at home) Almond and Woolrich teamed up for a capsule collaboration of entirely Made in the USA clothing, accessories and special edition surfboards.

Laid back California vibes run strong in the men’s and women’s offerings. Navy, whites and indigos with iconic Woolrich patterns incorporated throughout make up the bulk of the collection. Sleek but comfortable, this beachwear transitions easily from sand to streets. One of the standout pieces though is the Wool Beach Blanket ($170). “The blanket features a classic ‘surf stripe’ and added corduroy pocket to stash keys, wallet and phone while at the beach or having a surf,” says Almond Apparel Director Chad Cress. “This same stripe is reflected in our Blanket Stripe Tee, which is a perfect mix of classic Almond styling and inspired by the Woolrich blanket.”
