Art Basel with PHHHOTO

The motion-capturing photo app introduces five artistic image filters for 24 hours each

We’ve long been fans of motion-capturing social photo booth PHHHOTO from our friends at HYPERHYPER, and even had the pleasure of playing with it at CH HQ before its official release in early 2013. Though their looped-motion image-creating booth is always an event favorite, the introduction of a mobile specific app in July of 2014 changed the way we—and many others—approach social photo sharing.

To further explore the social aspect of the app during Miami Art Week, PHHHOTO created five artist specific filters that were available to all app users for just 24 hours each. Artist collaborators included Jen Stark, Jesse Willenbring and Justin Beal, Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe and Freegums (aka Alvaro Ilizarbe), along with Galore magazine.

By making the creative overlays available to both the Miami Art Basel community and users located elsewhere, PHHHOTO opened the opportunity to participate in a grander social experience to like-minded creatives around the world. During the entire Art Week, PHHHOTO was involved in 16 events, boasting 17,500 phhhotos taken using both the app and physical PHHHOTO pro. Of this lot, the following are our five favorite images taken during ABMB using the specific artist-edition filters.
